The Preferred Cold-Chain Distribution Center at the Tianjin Port Container Logistics Center, located in the northern water area of Tianjin Port, has increased its daily throughput from 600 tons to 1,000 tons.

By mid-January, the total cargo storage weight in the distribution center's freeze warehouses had reached 11,000 tons, at a total goods value of 100 million yuan ($16.42 million).

The distribution center, which started trial operation on Aug 1, 2013, is qualified to offer services such as freeze warehousing, transportation, goods processing, distribution, customs clearance, quarantine inspection, cargo space booking and cargo agency. It is currently the largest single cold-chain distribution center in North China, and it boasts many advantages in project design, automate management, security and environment protection technology.

Cargo stored in the distribution center includes imported beef, mutton, pork, seafood, fruit juice, dairy products and food additives. The products are distributed to more than a dozen countries such as the United States, France, Canada and New Zealand, as well as the domestic market through major supermarkets and fresh food stores in cities such as Beijing and Tianjin.

In 2013, Tianjin Port imported about 800,000 tons of frozen meat, an annual volume increase of 20 percent. With the new distribution center in service, the monthly throughput volume in Tianjin Port is expected to reach 20,000 to 30,000 tons, with estimated annual throughput volume of 30,000 tons and a total transaction value of 2.5 billion yuan.
