The country's index of tourist satisfaction stood at 74.88 in 2013, a drop of 5.78 from the previous year, according to a report announced by the China Tourism Academy on Friday during the 2014 City Tourism Development Strategy Seminar held in Chengdu, capital of Sichuan province.

Suzhou, Huangshan, Chengdu, Wuxi and Qingdao are the five cities topping the list of tourist satisfaction, with their index standing at 79.28, 78.21, 78.02, 76.77 and 76.48 respectively.

"The report on tourist satisfaction was written after the academy conducted a survey in 60 Chinese cities," said Li Zhongguang, director of the Institute of Industry of the academy affiliated with the China National Tourism Administration.

There are four reasons for the decline of tourist satisfaction in 2013. First, the satisfaction of inbound tourists was low. Standing at 75.46, it was a drop of 11.41 over 2012. Second, tourist satisfaction with the air quality dropped, with their satisfaction with the environment in the 60 cities standing at 74.11, up only 0.35 over 2012.

Third, satisfaction with public services such as taxis and network coverage did not rise significantly. " Satisfaction with the public service in the tourism sector was 71.61，a drop of 0.15 in 2012," Li said.

Fourth, satisfaction with the catering industry dropped sharply and tourists were most dissatisfied with tourism prices.

"Their satisfaction with the service of the tourism sector in the 60 cities stood at 72.37，a rise of only 0.07 from 2012," Li said.
