Sanmenxia recognized for scientific and technological progress

Sanmenxia of Henan province was named a "National Advanced City for Scientific and Technological Progress", the Ministry of Science and Technology said on Nov 15, following its National Scientific and Technological Progress Evaluation. This is Sanmenxia's first award of its kind.
In addition, Sanmenxia's Lingbao was singled out as a "National Advanced City" and Mianchi was named a county for scientific and technological progress
The National Scientific and Technological Progress Evaluation, a biennial event organized by the Ministry of Science and Technology, is an appraisal of comprehensive scientific and technological strength, competitiveness and innovative competence.
Sanmenxia authorities have focused on science and technology to help develop the local economy, and they monitor the city's progress in these fields. The authorities have implemented a system to reward achievements in science and technology, and they also aim to cultivate talents in these fields.
Scientific and technological progress and innovation - especially concerning industries such as gold, coal chemicals, equipment manufacturing and specialty agricultural products - play an increasingly important role in the city's development.
Sanmenxia boasts 11 academician workstations, 33 engineering technology research centers, four key labs and 21 enterprises R&D centers- which are all at the provincial level. In addition, the city has established two post-doctoral research workstations.
A total of 71 platforms for research and development above the municipal level are available in the city, including 55 at provincial level. The city's hi-tech revenue in 2012 totaled 14.5 billion yuan ($2.38 billion), and added-value reached 4.47 billion yuan.
