Leading semiconductor chipmaker Intel launched a charitable fund with the China Foundation for Poverty Alleviation (CFPA) on August 19 in Chengdu, capital of Sichuan province.
The iWorld Community Development Innovation Fund, a major part of the community development project jointly initiated by Intel and the CFPA, aims to promote community development in the area hit by the Lushan earthquake, said Ge Jun, managing director of Intel China.
The Intel foundation agreed to donate 10 million yuan ($1.63 million) to the CFPA following the earthquake. The money was used to establish the innovation fund under the guidance of the governmental reconstruction policy, according to Ge.
The fund will support the reconstruction of communities mainly through five aspects: skills and vocational training, fostering of social organizations, community culture construction, disaster prevention and reduction, and information network platform construction.
