Dell's new base in Chengdu begins production
A new global operation base of the PC giant Dell began production on June 6 in Chengdu, capital of Sichuan province.
Located in the Chengdu High-Tech Zone, the base covers an area of 30,000 square meters and is expected to reach a desktop production capacity of 7 million units a year.
"Our commitment to China has never been stronger, and this on-going investment further demonstrates the importance of China to Dell's strategy and future," said Michael Dell, chairman and CEO of the company, at the launching ceremony.
The global operation base in Chengdu is the first of its kind to fully deploy Dell's new IT solutions within the factory, said Amit Midha, president of Dell Asia Pacific and Japan Region.
The new base is also expected to spark the influx of additional manufacturing industries to Chengdu, helping the city create a more efficient supply chain and distribution system.
According to figures released by Chengdu, the city's annual output in manufacturing of laptops, tablet PCs and desktops exceeded 100 billion yuan ($16.31 billion) in value last year.
