AC LED lighting achieves breakthrough
Sichuan Sunfor Light Ltd, a leading LED lighting producer based in Chengdu, Sichuan province, launched a new generation of AC LED lighting products on May 26.
"With fluorescent powder-based LED lighting technology, the new products are cheaper and have a longer lifespan, and are more energy-saving than usual LED products," said Zhang Ming, president of the company.
The new products, which directly use alternating current electricity, can be 15 percent more energy efficient than direct current LED products, said Zhang.
Unlike traditional lighting systems, the new products have no light bulb. Instead, the "light engine" a piece of specially designed chip that glows when electrified – directly glows in lamps, he said.
By using fluorescent powder, the company also handled the harmful flickering problem of AC LED lighting products that even companies such as Philips and Osram AG have failed to solve.
The products of Sichuan Sunfor Light Ltd were installed in several stadiums for the 2008 Beijing Olympics and the urban lighting projects in Chengdu. It was also one of the major LED lighting suppliers of the Shanghai Expo in 2010.
