In 2011, Lujiazui Finance and Trade Zone held 119 exhibitions with exhibition areas reaching 4,933,700 square meters, up 23.8 percent year-on-year. Lujiazui became a favorable area for exhibition development during the year. Its main museums provided exhibition areas totaling more than 300,000 square meters.
Three museums (the Shanghai New International Expo Centre, the Pudong Expo and the Shanghai Science and Technology Museum) formed a cluster for the flower and tree exhibition industry. According to main exhibitions held throughout the year, exhibition scale increased and average single exhibition area reached 41,500 square meters, a record high in recent years. Twelve exhibitions had exhibition areas of more than 30,000 square meters and 34 large exhibitions had exhibition areas of more than 50,000 square meters.
Roughly 105 international exhibitions were held in 2011, up 6.1 percent year-on-year. International exhibitions accounted for 88.2 percent of all exhibitions, a 5 percent increase. In addition, branding and specialization of exhibitions became more apparent. Many high-quality famous exhibitions have been established, including the Shanghai International Automobile Industry Exhibition, China International Industry Fair, East China Fair, China International Hardware Fair, Shanghai International Advertisement Technology Exhibition, and China International Trade Fair for Apparel Fabrics and Accessories. The region’s influence on the exhibition industry has been greatly enhanced.
