The Lujiazui Financial and Trade Zone covers an area of 31.78 square kilometers and is 100 percent urbanized.

The Pudong New District is located in the coastal zone south of the northern subtropical area where the East Asian monsoon dominates. It has an oceanic climate and, as a result, has four distinct seasons and plenty of sunshine and rainfall. Its average temperature is around 16 degrees Celsius, with a frost-free period of roughly 230 days per year.
The Pudong New District is part of a plain region filled with a river network. The rivers within it form two river systems which are independent but connected.
At its downstream section, which is 38 kilometers long, the Huangpu River flows from southwest (Yangsi Port) to northeast and joins the Yangtze River at the Wusong estuary. The main east-west rivers include Zhangjiabang, Bailianjing and Sanlinpu. Water from inland rivers flows into the Huangpu River and then heads north to the ocean through the Wusong River.
With a good ecological environment, there are rich animal and plant resources in Lujiazui.
