The Tianjin port Beida breakwater project started on June 26, 2002, marked the beginning of the construction of Dongjiang port area. Over the past decade, a 30 km2 artificial peninsula emerged from the sea by land reclamation. It includes the 10 km2 Dongjiang bonded port area, which is the largest port area with the highest level of openness in China. Since the port area began operation in December 2007, it has had a capacity of 7.5mn TEDs of container throughput, received 70 international cruise lines and 170,000 visits. It has begun to show results in its core function to be a international shipping center with 886 registered enterprises worth accumulative registered capital of 61.9 billion yuan.

The celebration activities include news conferences, photo exhibitions, academic workshops, arts shows, and the opening of the Dongjiang Memorial Park.

The arts show was attended by many leaders, including Yu Rumin, a leader of The Group Company, who delivered a speech.

Ten years ago, Dongjiang was still part of the sea and became a world-known port area ten years later. It aims to become a core international shipping center and logistics center in northern China, a free trade port zone, a pilot zone for economic reform, and a demonstration zone of a livable and environmental-friendly port city. It also hopes to further promote Binhai New Area’s role in the regional economy.

“The development of Dongjiang port area is a vivid example of following the scientific outlook in the new era and represents the enterprising spirit of the leaders and the public. On the 10th anniversary, as a member contributing to the development of the Binhai New Area, I am very proud to say we have made fruitful results and produced a large number of talents. Congratulations!” Gou Lijun, deputy director of the standing committee of the Dongjiang’s People’s Congress, said in his letter of congratulation.

The arts show lasted for two hours and provided the audience with cross-talks, dances, music and acrobatics.
