Sichuan to aid cerebral palsy children

The August 1 Rehabitation Center for Cerebral Palsy has been set up in the Chengdu International Medical City in Yongning town of Wenjiang district of Chengdu, Sichuan province.

The new center with the departments of cerebral palsy surgery and rehabilitation will perform surgical operations and resort to rehabilitation methods to improve the lives of sufferers.

Speaking in the recent launching ceremony of the center, Li Dengju, chairwoman of the Sichuan Provincial Federation of Trade Unions said that her province has more than 250,000 patients with cerebral palsy.

Each year, about 3,000 new cases are found in the province which has around 100,000 children aged at 12 and below who suffer from cerebral palsy, Li said.

From 2012 to 2016, Sichuan will help children sufferers at this age group from 40,000 poor families through surgery and rehabilitation, she added.
