A total of 236 cultural industry projects in Shandong province were promoted in Beijing on Tuesday.

The projects, with an overall investment of more than 130 billon yuan ($20.38 billion), were introduced during a promotional conference for key cultural industry projects in Shandong, a coastal province located in the east part of China.

More than 20 projects were signed up during the event and 15 of them have an investment of more than one billion yuan ($157 million).

The conference was held by several government sectors of Shandong including the Provincial People’s Government and the Department of Culture to promote the development of its cultural industry.

The culture industry is expected to see its output quadruple to 500 billion yuan ($78.42 billion) by 2015, according to Shandong province's 12th Five-Year Plan (2011-2015), which calls for market expansion and increased competition to promote its cultural industry

Home to Confucius, a Chinese thinker and philosopher born 2,562 years ago, Shandong has been striving to develop its cultural industry during recent years, concentrating on audio and video production, publishing and printing, entertainment, advertising, exhibitions, themed tourism, animation, and online games.

The province has put more than 100 billion yuan ($15.68 billion) annually into the cultural industry over the past five years.
