The first Annual Low Carbon Earth Summit (LCES-2011) raised its curtain on Wednesday in Dalian, Northeast China's Liaoning province.

The 8-day event attracted more than 4,000 scholars, entrepreneurs, and government officials, according to Mei Xiaodan, president of the undertaker BIT World Congress (Dalian) Inc. Nearly half of the participants come from 57 other countries and regions such as US, Canada, and Germany.

The purpose of the LCES-2011 is to provide a world-class meeting place for information exchanges and trade fairs to promote low carbon economy, said Mei.

With the theme of "Leading the Green Economy, Returning to Harmony with Nature", the conference consists of 10 forums in low carbon fields and more than 200 sessions covering current topics and issues related to climate changes.

The LCES-2011 is organized by the Information and Research Centre of State Administration of Foreign Expert Affairs of China and China Council of Promotion of International Trade Dalian Chamber.
