The Sichuan International Pickle Trade Fair will kick off in Meishan, Southwest China's Sichuan province, on July 18.
With the theme "Pickes and Health," the fair will draw more than 600 participants including foreign diplomats in China leading officials from ministries and commissions from China's central government, and executives from Chinese and foreign firms.
The fair will display, promote and sell Sichuan pickles, and name the top 10 enterprises in Sichuan's pickle industry.
It will also hold an expert forum "Pickles and Health," according to Fu Zhikang, chief of the Sichuan provincial department of agriculture.
Meishan, a major producer of pickles, made 520,000 tons of pickles in the first half of this year, with sales amounting to 3.1 billion yuan, up more than 30 percent over the same period last year.
The city's booming pickle industry is the representative of Sichuan's pickle industry, Fu said.
In the first six months of this year, Sichuan made more than 800,000 tons of pickles whose sales surpassed 7 billion yuan.
The sales were the total for the whole year of 2009. Last year, Sichuan's pickle sales were nearly 12 billion yuan, ranking first in China, Fu said.
Its sales this year will surpass the amout, he said.
