The Wenjiang district government of Chengdu, Sichuan province, has submitted an application aiming to get the title of "Chinese flower district" from the China Flower Association.

Wenjiang is an important flower production, research, development and distribution center in western China. In 2005, the Sixth China Flower Expo was held in the district. Four years later, the 19th China Orchid Fair was held there.

Since the two events, the district has given priority to development of the flower industry. It is home to 8,667 hectares of flower bases.

Because of the district's advantages in the flower industry, the China Flower Association has pledged support for its application, according to district director Xie Chao.
