Nanchang, JIANGXI - This year's Red Tourism Exposition opens in the city of Nanchang on July 1, with a series of performances and activities planned around the theme of "Red Tourism, Red Songs".

The tourism expo, which has run for the past six years in Jiangxi, will this year be a nationwide event for the first time.

Participating in the event are 14 provincial tourism administrations and 16 key red tourism sites.

Jiangxi tourism authorities said the province is leading the way in red tourism development and previous expos have gained wide recognition.

The expo will kick off with an hour-and-a-half-long red song concert on July 1, the 90th birthday of the Communist Party of China, and two well-known CCTV personalities will host the event alongside two local Jiangxi stars.

A 60-meter-long, 20-meter-wide main arena will be built at the center of Qiushui square in Nanchang for the show, and will include a 12-storey-high platform and three big LED screens as well as some 4,000 lights.

More than 3,000 chorus members will perform five chapters and 42 red songs, accompanied by a specially-made 80-minute video with images to complement the tunes.

In addition, expo organizers have invited the team that arranged the fireworks display at the opening ceremony of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games to coordinate fireworks at the ceremony, which is expected to draw an audience of 200 million.

Mainstream media such as the People’s Daily, Xinhua News Agency, CCTV, and China Radio International will cover the expo’s main activities, and many online news portals will provide a live broadcast of the opening ceremony.

An online red song competition as well as an art design competition will also be part of the expo.
