7th Chengdu computer festival kicks off

Sponsored by the Chengdu municipal government in Sichuan province, the 7th Chengdu International Computer Festival kicked off on Thursday.

Qu Weizhi, president of the China Electronic Chamber of Commerce, announced the opening of the festival, and Ge Honglin, mayor of Chengdu, delivered a speech at the opening ceremony.

Ge said: "The electronic information industry is a strong point in the long-term development of Chengdu, and our vision is to create a globally competitive and attractive gathering area of the electronic information industry."

"To this end, we will work tirelessly to help institutions of higher learning in the city so that they can provide personnel for the rapid development of the electronic information industry. The city will try to create a good living environment and investment to attract both domestic and international famous companies as well as small and medium-sized entrepreneurial high-tech companies to Chengdu," he said.

The 1st Chengdu International Computer Festival was held in 1998.
