Hitachi kicked off an advertising campaign in Shanghai Thursday (Sept.2) to promote its enterprise strategy for the Chinese market to push forward its mid-term operation programme for 2012.

The campaign, echoing its event to mark the centenary anniversary of its founding, is the second phase of its "Dream Tapir" advertising promotion project with the focus placed on environmental protection, said Ohno Nobuyuki, chairman of Hitachi China Company Ltd.

It depicts the perfect combination of nature with science and harmony to reach a balance between environment and development.

Japanese artist Aya Kato designs the animation by co-operating with world-famous animation director Koji Morimoto and movie star Peter Ho.

Hitachi Group has established its guideline in the Chinese market to develop innovation business aimed at making contributions to the country's environmental protection, said Ohno.

Since its inception in 1910 as an electrical repair shop for a mining company, Hitachi has been dedicated to creating advanced technologies and quality products for consumers. It now has grown into a global leading electronics company with 900 group companies worldwide.

Its mid-term operation program which was released in May this year aims to combine the advanced IT with social infrastructure, creating big market space for its new products, said Ohno.

"Doing do enables Hitachi to challenge the fierce competitiveness it will be confronted with in the next 100 years," he said.

Hitachi set up its first office in Beijing in 1979 and now has 134 companies with 53,000 employees in China. It has turned the country into its largest overseas market with sales reaching 75 billion yuan in 2009, 11 per cent of its global total.

It plans to strengthen partnership with Chinese universities to push forward its R&D ability and train more quality employees, he said.

"If we complete the operation program, we will be able to reach sales of 123.46 billion yuan in 2012, including net profits of 24.7 billion yuan," he said.
