Eighteen students at Tsinghua University received the Veolia Top Creative Talents Award Friday afternoon for their outstanding creativity in scientific research.

Jorge Mora, CEO of Veolia Environnement China, and Yu Gang, Dean of the Department of Environmental Science & Engineering, attended the award ceremony on the World Environment Day, which is on June 5.

The award, set up by Veolia Environment, a global company providing water, waste treatment and energy services, provides 100,000 yuan in rewards every year for Tsinghua’s Department of Environmental Science & Engineering starting from this year. It's part of a series of cooperation projects between the company and the university, Mora said.

The first batch of rewarded students, nine undergraduates and nine postgraduates, cover science and technology contest winners and top-notch researchers.

Since it came to China in 1992, Veolia Environment has sponsored more than 100 local government officials and academics in training on sustainable development at Tsinghua University and institutions overseas. It also established a joint research center with Tsinghua.
