Jiyuan gets its name because it is the source of the Jishui River and it is the place where the story of the Foolish Old Man (Yugong in Chinese) who moved the mountains took place. As the northwestern gate of Henan province, it borders with Taihang Mountain and Wangwu Mountain in the north, Yellow River in the south, Shanxi province in the west and Huabei Plain in the east with an area of 1931 square kilometers and a population of 680,000. Jiyuan was established in 596 in Sui Dynasty. It ceased to be a county and became a city in 1988. It entered the direct provincial administration system in 1998.

Jiyuan is one of the nine cities of the city group of Henan Province in central China and a pilot city of integration of urban and rural areas. People in Jiayuan give a full play to the spirit of the Foolish Old Man, grasp opportunities and work hard. Taking as striving target the building a new integrated structure of economy, polities, society and culture, people in Jiyuan have been doing concrete works to push forward industrialization, integration of urban and rural areas, building of a new countryside and construction of a harmonious society.

In recent years, the city has won titles and awards such as “Model city of establishing national civilized and sanitary city”, “Excellent Tourism City of China”, “National Garden-style City”, and “National Basketball city”, etc. All these have contributed a lot to change Jiyuan from a historical city to a promising land suitable for investment, a favorable tourism star, a splendid pearl embedded on the bands of the Yellow River.

Jiyuan is a vigorous promising land and it will write a new chapter in the era with its overwhelming spirit.
