At the same time, CTMO actively cooperated with embassies of the Republic of Korea, Greece, Italy, and so forth in some trademark cases, including the Iran “JAFFA” orange case, the Indonesian PT Kedaung Group trademark infringement, the Greek “FETA” and “APVITA” trademark cases, the Thailand “PATUM” trademark case, and so on.
4. Active in enhancing the international competitiveness of Chinese enterprises.
In order to protect Chinese enterprises’ trademark rights abroad, CTMO set up an overseas trademark rights protection mechanism in 2009 and created a favorable international trademark protection environment for China’s foreign trade and economic development. In 2009, CTMO successfully stopped 52 Chinese trademarks and signs, such as “Bank ofChina”, “China Aluminum”, “Sina”, “Sohu”, and “Pu-Er Tea” from being maliciously registered in Canada, and these were immediately reported to the State Council. Besides, the office held a forum to celebrate the 20th anniversary of China’s joining the Madrid System, and formulated the Guidance on Strengthening Registration in Madrid System for the International Registration of Marks and Establishing Overseas Trademark Rights Protection Mechanism in order to help Chinese enterprises fully use the trademark strategy in international markets and thus enhance their international competitiveness.
