NANJING: "We are setting up the trade office to strengthen our ties with Nanjing and Jiangsu province in the areas of business and investment," said Nadir Patel, Canadian consul general in Shanghai, at the unveiling ceremony of Canadian Nanjing Trade Office on March 24.
Canada has long had close economic, educational and cultural cooperation with China, especially in the past two decades.
As one of most affluent provinces in the country, Jiangsu has conducted frequent economic and cultural exchanges with Canadian states and cities, yielding good results.
Over the years, Canada and Jiangsu have conducted numerous economic and cultural exchanges which have facilitated close cooperation between the two sides.
Of the over 170 Canadian enterprises and companies in the Yangtze River Delta, most have invested in Jiangsu, contributing greatly to the development of new energy and building material industries in the province.
"I believe that the trade office will help promote the application of our advanced technology in agriculture, automobiles, biomedicine and environment in Jiangsu while serving as an important resource for Chinese enterprises intending to invest in Canada," said Patel.
Present at the ceremony was Mark Rowswell (Dashan, a well-known name in China), Canadian commissioner general for Shanghai 2010 Expo, who gave a brief account of the use of high technology in Canadian Pavilion at the Expo.
