Harvard professor Tu Weiming and the Chinese Confucius Foundation, were honored as the winners of the first Confucius Prize for Culture on Sept 27 in Qufu, Shandong.
Confucius Prize for Culture was established in 2009 by Chinese Ministry of Culture and Shandong Government, mainly rewarding Confucian researchers, institutions and NGOs with outstanding contributions to the research and popularization of Confucianism. It is expected to become a regular award held every year.
Tu Weiming is one of the third generation representatives of the Neo-Confucianism. This American Academician of Arts and Social Sciences Academy initiates Confucian modern value and the culture communication between the east and west.
The Chinese Confucius Foundation founded in Sept 1984 aims at expanding the Confucian influence from Southeast Asia to the whole world by organizing a series of national and international conferences and publishing books and magazines.
