The Danxia Landform of China, proposed for recognition as a "World Heritage Site" by Taining and five other member units, is gaining strong support as it enters the most critical stage of the UNESCO application process.

"I'm very happy that many people are giving back to Danxia's application to World Heritage," Chen Zhonghe, former head coach of China's Women's volleyball team, told China Daily at the opening ceremony of the second Danxia Cultural Tourism Festival held in Taining August 6. "Danxia is worthy of all the support," he said.

Chen, currently deputy chief of the Fujian Sport Bureau, didn't have much time to look around Taining but said "taining impresses me deeply with [its] beautiful scenery."

He added, "I am very confident about Taining's application. We must tell the world there is attractive Danxia in Taining [and] Sanming."
