Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts support children with mooncake sale
(China Daily Fujian Bureau)
Updated: 2009-07-31 09:22 For the third year running, Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts, Asia Pacific's leading luxury hotel group, has organized a nationwide charity mooncake sale. The sale, which began at the end of July 2009 and runs until October 3, 2009, will benefit Care for Children, a Beijing-based charity organization that helps rebuild orphaned or under-privileged children's lives through foster care. A total of 27 Shangri-La and Traders hotels will join forces in the fund-raising event. Efforts in 2007 and 2008 resulted in total sales of around 80,000 boxes of charity mooncakes and helped raise more than 3 million yuan ($452,838) for Care for Children. Four mooncakes in two assorted flavours—red and white lotus paste—will be packaged in specially designed Shangri-La metal mooncake boxes in striking silver and red, priced at 138 yuan per box. Forty yuan from every box of charity mooncakes sold will be donated to Care for Children. Established in 1998, Care for Children works in partnership with local governments to introduce foster care and other strategic initiatives for orphans and other needy Chinese children. Today, Care for Children is active in over 220 orphanages throughout China and has helped place thousands of Chinese children living in orphanages into Chinese foster homes. Shangri-La became Care for Children's first and only hotel group corporate partner in 2005. Hong Kong-based Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts currently owns and/or manages 63 hotels under the deluxe Shangri-La and mid market Traders brands, with a room inventory of over 28,000. The group has over 40 projects under development in Austria, Canada, mainland China, France, India, Macau, the Philippines, Qatar, the Seychelles Islands, Thailand, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom and the United States. |
