Deadly road accidents kill 8 in Fujian

Eight people are dead and dozens of others are injured after separate car accidents occurred at the Fujian section of the Shenyang-Haikou expressway on July 26.

Five killed at Fu'an section

A 37-seat bus carrying 33 people from Xiamen in Fujian province to Cangnan in Zhejiang province hit a guardrail at the Fu'an section of the Shenyang-Haikou highway at around 4:30 p.m and turned over, causing five deaths.

Forty-six fire fighters came to rescue the accident victims, some of whom were trapped under the bus. The injured were immediately sent to the local hospital, rescuers said.

Police are investigating the cause of the accident.

Earlier, the "July 21" major car accident occurred at the same highway section, resulting in nine deaths and 27 people injured after two cars hit each other and tumbled into a ditch.

Two killed at Zhangzhou section

At around 2:30 in the early morning of July 26, a three-truck pileup killed two and injured one at the Zhangzhou section of the highway leading from Shenyang to Haikou. Hundreds of cars were stuck in the road and traffic did not resume until 2 p.m. later that day.

One killed at Xiapu section

Lane B at the Xiapu section of the Shenyang-Haikou highway was also the scene of a deadly accident after a coach collided into a right guardrail and rushed off the road. One person died due to mass injuries and another 11 were injured and sent to hospital.
