The International Nature Park in Taining will set the scene for the 2nd China Danxia Culture and Tourism Festival from August 5th to 8th.

Featuring the Danxia landform, Taining embodies aesthetics of Danxia culture, geology and folk customs, which have helped name the county "the seven most beautiful Danxia in China".

The Festival will include four major activities, including a seminar on developing tourism in the Western Strait, an award ceremony for the China Photography Contest, mountainous region outdoor sports and the 2nd China University Student Dance Contest.

Commenting on the jam-packed event, vice mayor of the Sanming municipal people's government, Lin Junde said, "Taining Danxia Culture and Tourism Festival is the only professional tourism festival with a Danxia cultural theme. The Festival aims to show the natural beauty and abundant historical culture of Taining and one of the top 10 famous towns in China."

The rich culture and history could land the city official cultural heritage status, but it still has to compete with others in an upcoming review.

"Taining's application for cultural heritage has come to a critical stage. This September, experts from IUCN will review and evaluate the candidate sites on value, integrity and conservation condition," the secretary of the CPC Taining County Committee, Zen Xianghui, told China Daily.

In March of this year, 130,000 people in Taining worked together to prepare the cultural heritage application. So far 60% of the application workload has been completed.
