Farming-product processing projects were highly popular with visitors to the 16th China Harbin Fair for Trade and Economic Co-operation (CHTF) held from June 15 to 19 in Harbin, capital of Heilongjiang Province.

As a leading manufacturer of refined starch in the domestic market, Beidahuang Potato Industry Co Ltd signed contracts worth 76 million yuan (US$9.2 million) during the fair.

This year, the potato starch output of the company is expected to reach 50,000 tons, and next year's production capacity will rise to 200,000 tons, ranking it first in Asia.

Labour transfer booming

At the 16th CHTF, the provincial Rural Labour Transferring Centre signed 77 contracts with employers from home and abroad on behalf of 33,000 rural employees.

According to statistics, the rural labour force in the province numbers 9.43 million, with 4.7 million surplus labour.

Last year, 3.57 million rural workers found jobs in towns and cities, up 46 per cent year-on-year.

By the end of May, 3.3 million rural workers had been transferred to work out of rural areas, including 12,000 sent to foreign countries, such as Russia, Japan and the Republic of Korea.

Fund-raising promotion

The investment promotion delegation from Shuangyashan City signed contracts in excess of 15 billion yuan (US$1.8 billion), accounting for half the total of the province, during the CHTF.
