LAS VEGAS - The 2013 International CES (Consumer Electronics Show) will be mainly a two-horse race, as smartphones and tablets are dominant figures by innovation and market trends.
On the first press day of 2013 International CES on Sunday, two days before its official opening on Tuesday, specialities from the global consumer electronic industry revealed that smartphones and tablets are the only two products that enjoy fastest growing in the market and by sales revenue. They are squeezing old tech products and passing over other products quickly.
The year-on-year increase of global sales for tablets are provisionally estimated at 60 percent in 2012 and smartphones at 38 percent, according to a joint report on market state by Consumer Electronics Association (CEA) and GFK Digital World.
In a report on the state of the consumer tech industry earlier Sunday, CEA Chief Economist and Research Director Shawn DuBravac said that smartphones and tablets are becoming hub devices for more hardwares. He called it an "unintended consequences of phones and tablets. "
DuBravac predicted that the world is going to enter a "post-smartphone" era, as 65 percent of mobile phone use time is in non-communication activities. The combination of mobile devices, sensors and services are creating a new life style.
