Sea of lanterns
A child and his mother hang a rabbit-shaped lantern, which was made by the family, outside the boy's school gate in Hangzhou, East China's Zhejiang province, Feb 15, 2011. The school has received about 800 lanterns made by pupils out of waste materials in preparation for the upcoming Lantern Festival, which is on the 15th of the first lunar month, Feb 17 this year, marking the end of New Year celebrations. Chinese started celebrating the Lantern Festival during the Han Dynasty (206BC-221AD). The biggest attractions at the festival are the sea of lanterns in every conceivable size and shape and eating small dumpling balls made of glutinous rice flour. [Photo/Xinhua]
