China's economic development will face challenges, including constraints of natural resources, a lack of scientific innovation, imbalanced development of rural and urban areas, employment pressures and income gaps, according to Zheng Bijian, former vice president of the Party School of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee.

Zheng said at a forum over the weekend that along with the changes taking place in China's social and consumption structure in the next 10 years, its enterprises will become more competitive and the government's capacity in macro-control and coping with complexities will steadily improve.
