Fish die in droves from heavy pollution in NE China
A farmer scoops out dead fish from the bank of a reservoir in Shenyang, capital of Northeast China's Liaoning province, April 6, 2010. With a storage capacity of more than 40 million cubic meters, the Tuanjie reservoir in the suburban area of the city was found to be heavily polluted and claimed the lives of numerous fish after the ice melted. The water has turned almost black, and dead fish formed a two-kilometer-long and two-meter-wide belt off the south bank of the reservoir and gave off a foul odor that reached for miles. The provincial and city environmental protection departments are now investigating the situation. [Photo/Xinhua]
