Whales stranded on New Zealand beaches, some saved

Dead whales lie on the beach at Farewell Spit on New Zealand's South Island December 28, 2009. More than 60 pilot whales were beached in Colville, according to local media reports. Some 125 pilot whales died in New Zealand after stranding on the beach over the weekend, but vacationers and conservation workers Sunday managed to coax 43 others back out to sea. [Agencies]
