Pushing forward reforms

Broadcast by China Central Television from July 17, the documentary Carrying Reform Through to the End takes a comprehensive look at China's deepening reform.

The documentary, which presents some of China's new reforms, displays the Communist Party of China's strong sense of historical mission and shows the broad and long-term vision of the CPC Central Committee with Xi Jinping as the core.

Further reform is the aspiration of people in China today, but the path of reforms has never been easy. At a recent meeting, the Central Leading Group for Deepening Overall Reform said that various obstructive forces need to be overcome to advance reforms. When talking of the Party's decision to launch comprehensive reforms, Wu Jinglian, a renowned economist, noted that any reform, no matter how well-designed, cannot automatically succeed, given that ideological hindrances, interest groups, adverse economic circumstances and technological difficulties can create obstacles to its effective implementation.

But if the country adheres to the correct direction of reform and opening-up, is bold when facing difficulties and breaks the barriers of ideology and entrenched interests, it will be able to realize the Chinese Dream of rejuvenating the nation.

And the Party has never balked at difficulties. Party chief Xi Jinping has repeatedly stressed that China should have the courage to crack the hardest nuts.

This is embodied in the Chinese leadership with Xi as the core resolutely saying "no" to the wrong outlooks on development and performance since the 18th National Congress of the CPC in 2012.

The existence of various barriers to reforms highlights the need for China to demonstrate its determination and wisdom to press ahead with its reform drive by putting in place more effective institutional arrangements.
