I have experienced many flight delays in China, especially out of Beijing and Shanghai on domestic routes. Generally it is wise to get one of the first few flights out before air traffic control starts building up long delays. I also agree with comments that the airlines are poor at confirming information about rescheduled flight boarding times - they just do not seem to know.

I’ve lived in China for quite a considerable time including my graduate school years, travelled and worked in a few cities and still choose my destination taking into consideration the density of smog or PM2.5 particulate matter in the region.
