获得感 (huodegan): Sense of gain

At the 10th meeting of the central leading group for comprehensively deepening reform earlier this year, President Xi Jinping mentioned that the public should have greater awareness of the fruits of reform. He also pointed out that reform should deal with the problems ordinary people face in their lives and better meet their needs. Reform should rely on the public and benefit the public, he said.

The best way to test if a reform has achieved its aim is to check people's true feelings about the reform fruits. Xi said that "making people have a sense of gain" is a decisive rule to measure the gold content of any reform. The authorities at various levels should make sure all the reforms are in accordance with the requirements of the development of the Party and the nation, and they meet people's demands and expectations.

To give people a greater sense of gain, the various reform measures need to be implemented. Otherwise they would be simply empty talk, which does nothing to improve people's lives.
