I've been in Beijing for almost ten years. China is just experiencing what we faced years ago: an economic boom followed by a worsening environment. But Chinese are becoming more environmentally aware and things are moving in the right direction. I thought it had improved for the APEC meetings. There is a long way to go but progress is being made. So I guess they will do their best to get a better situation.
