It's a drama, not a documentary. Dramas are meant to entertain, not necessarily educated, so I don't think they need to be historically accurate.

A scene from The Legend of Zhen Huan, a Chinese TV drama, which depicts the power struggle between the concubines of an emperor. Aisin Gioro Puyang, a descendant of the Imperial Aisin Gioro clan that ruled during China's Qing Dynasty (1644-1912), criticized the TV drama saying that the public is attracted to this grotesque distortion, with many fans ignoring the real history.
