Seneca (expat in China)
Generally I think China's youth get treated as though they were the elderly: adults stand up to let children sit down. While this makes sense when the children are too young to travel on their own, I think it unnecessary for middle-school kids who spend all day long sitting, anyway.
Some of the elderly, however, lack respect for the young, too. Not only do they imperiously demand their privileges; they sometimes tyrannize passengers. I once saw an elderly man sitting on the inner chair and keeping a potted plant on the outer one. No one was allowed to sit down there; the man was anything but polite to those who asked him to put the plant on the floor.
