Allocation of subsidized homes must be supervised
The central government should not only urge local governments to build subsidized homes, but also strengthen supervision of their distribution, said an article in the 21st Century Business Herald (excerpts below).
The Guangdong provincial auditing office found 358 unqualified families succeeded in obtaining subsidized homes and about 11,464 of these homes are empty with many poor families waiting in the queue.
The government must strengthen its control on distribution and supervision of the resources to better serve the people who qualify to apply for the homes.
The empty homes can become lucrative assets for officials in charge of distributing them.
This situation must be addressed.
