Extend trust of e-commerce to society as whole

chinadaily.com.cn | Updated: 2013-05-22 14:16

China's e-commerce is growing at an astonishing speed. The basis of e-commerce is trust, something needed by all of society, says an editorial in People's Daily. Excerpts:

Fifteen years ago it was still a faraway story to buy something from a stranger online; today, e-commerce is already part of everyone's life. Everyday there are 24 million deals reached on taobao.com alone.

The basis of e-commerce is trust, so 24 million deals means 24 million trusts. Of course, there are defects and bad cases, but generally speaking, online deals have a good record and are winning more customers from traditional ways of doing business.

The ultimate cause is that websites, which are authorities governing e-commerce, have maintained rules by acting just and transparent, and won the people's trust.

That trust is needed in the whole of society, too. That requires the governing agencies and officers to obey their own rules and set a good example so that people can trust them.
