Milk powder production must have proper supervision
A report released by the China Dairy Industry Association claims that the quality of domestic milk powder is better than that of overseas brands. However, it will take more than praise for confidence to return, says an article in Beijing News (excerpts below).
Perhaps, after the Sanlu scandal, milk powder standards have greatly improved with stricter supervision.
But it is too early to assert that China's milk powder is better than foreign brands.
No details of the brands that were quality tested, or data concerning the results, have been made public.
The best way to ease public fears is with an independent, fully transparent procedure.
What the public trust is not foreign dairy products as such, but the supervision behind their production. As long as we ensure proper supervision, it is not impossible for domestic milk powder to be of a higher standard than foreign versions.
