Cleaning the air takes time

chinadaily.com.cn | Updated: 2013-02-05 20:54

Premier Wen Jiabao said the government will give people hope in dealing with air pollution. Vice-Premier Li Keqiang said it must do something meaningful. But the treatment of pollution is related to the economic transformation as well as changes to people's lifestyles and concepts, so it will take time to solve the air pollution problem in China, according to an article in China Business News.

Here are excerpts:

Firstly, it takes time to clean the air, and secondly, society as a whole, not just the government, will pay the costs.

As the saying goes, Rome wasn't built in a day. The prolonged haze that shrouded North China is the result of various pollutants accumulating over time. This is why reducing the number of cars and ordering enterprises to suspend their production are only makeshift relief measures. The arrival of cold air remains the most effective solution to the pollution problem.

Chinese people are enjoying the achievements of fast development, so we have no choice but to shoulder the consequences of such development, which comes in various forms.

Environmental protection needs input from the government, the market, private capital, social organizations and individual citizens.
