Actor "Zhang Guofeng", who played an important role in the popular TV spy drama, Lurk, was arrested from Qiqihar, Heilongjiang province, for a vicious assault on and robbing a police officer in 1998. "Zhang" moved from city to city and finally settled in Jinhua, Zhejiang province, changing his name from "Ji Siguang" to "Zhang Guofeng", says an article in Wuhan Evening News. Excerpts:
During his 13 years at large, Ji transformed himself from a migrant worker into an extra in TV dramas and then a prominent actor in popular TV series. Surprising is the fact that he chose the Hengdian World Studio in Zhejiang as a refuse, instead of hiding from the law.
More surprising is that he was arrested only after an "insider" informed police about his identity.
How could police have failed to recognize a wanted criminal for 13 years? Didn't they realize that "Zhang Guofeng" and "Ji Siguang" were the same man, especially after seeing him in about 30 TV dramas?
Ji Siguang's story is indeed shocking. We don't know how many wanted criminals are still at large masquerading in someone else's identity.
It's time police changed their stereotypical ideas and became more vigilant.
