Comment on "Chinese orbiter fails to enter designated orbit" (China Daily, Aug 19)
Some Chinese people have a problematic attitude toward failure. After the recent high-speed train accident, there were calls to stop all high-speed train projects. Now, after the failure of the satellite launch, there are calls to stop the launch of Tiangong-1 space station.
Any space exploration could fail. There are risks in everything we do and they are an unavoidable fact of life. That's why it is important to have a positive and constructive attitude toward failure, especially in scientific research.
The right thing to do is to identify the causes of the failure and prevent them from recurring.
