'Down-to-earth' dream

The dream of the common man in China today is more "down to earth", which can be best summed up by four "A"s: apartment, automobile, "A"-list university and attractive job.

We all need a roof over our head and a good job to bring home the bacon. And a good education in an "A"-list university will make the two tasks easier to achieve.

Lack of proper public transport even in some of China's top-tier cities is a compelling reason for people to buy cars.

The relentless pursuit of the four "A"s by Chinese is not simply a passing fad. Although the dream may change with the country's increasing prosperity but until then the four "A"s will live on.
