The fight between the fathers of the topper and second-most successful candidate has brought the integrity of the civil service exams into question, because both these gentlemen happen to be local officials, says an article on new.china.com.cn. Excerpts:
Zhang Jing, who topped the Xi'an urban management bureau's exam in Shanxi province has been temporarily refused to be inducted into the civil service because the father of Zhang Yang, who stood second in the exam, has complained of nepotism and even filed a case against the local civil service authorities.
This shameless drama makes the public wonder whether government officials are abusing their power to pass on the reins of the administration to their heirs. Who knows how many such officials are scheming to get their children well-paying jobs in the civil service?
