Comment on "Professor jailed for organizing group sex parties" (China Daily, May 21)

As a prospective postgraduate student in Nanjing University, I was shocked at the news, especially because the chief organizer of the group sex parties was a university professor. The news reminded me of plagiarism and cheating by some university professors and so-called experts in their research work. These people may not have broken the law but they have definitely violated the educational and moral code.

I thought group sex parties were a figment of some film directors' imagination. But now they are being held around us.

No matter what we learn from others, our lessons should fit into our environment. Sexual freedom, as well as gambling and prostitution, are not part of our society.

Freedom without restrictions is anarchy. Prof Ma Yaohai's group sex parties are a challenge to our social ethics, tolerance, dignity and the authority of law.

A noble state cannot exist without sound ethics, good social environment and a socio-moral system. These elements are essential for building national spirit.
