Income gap concern(China Daily)Updated: 2007-01-05 07:16 I read with deep concern the story on the survey of the polarization between the poor and rich in China (China Daily, December 26, 2006, Page 2). The widening gap of this kind is a potential factor causing social instability that could cost the security of the nation. The gap between the rich and poor is perceived as one of the major causes of South Africa's most violent crimes. China is developing very rapidly. It is a very urgent task for the government to perfect its system of social welfare and benefits. Otherwise, China could be a second South Africa in terms of crimes. This must be viewed and dealt with as an issue of national security. Bothwell Mugariri South Africa (China Daily 01/05/2007 page11) |
