A spectator cries after China's Liu Xiang failed to compete in the men's first round 110m hurdles heat 6 at the "Bird's Nest" National Stadium during the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games on August 18, 2008. China's defending Olympic 110 m hurdles champion Liu Xiang sensationally retired from the event without competing in his first round heat. The 25-year-old former world record holder did get down into the blocks but once it had been called for a false start, he ripped off his lane numbers attached to his thighs, turned round and walked straight past the blocks and back into the athletes' entrance to the stadium.
