China's elite troop receives Olympics journalists

BEIJING -- More than 100 journalists will visit the Sixth Armored Division of the Beijing Military Command on Friday morning as the the People's Liberation Army welcomes its 81st founding anniversary.


A reception is held by the Denfense Ministry of China to celebrate the 81st Army Day which will fall on August 1, 2008 in Beijing, China, on July 31, 2008. Military officers of Foreign Embassies in China and their wives also attend the reception. [Xinhua]

The Division, the first PLA unit to be fully equipped with Chinese made tanks, armored vehicles and artillery, is one of China's elite land forces.

A total of 103 journalists reporting the Beijing  Olympics will visit the division's weapons and large-scale military exercises conducted by the division, officials said.

Among them are 48 foreign journalists from 30 media organizations including Reuters, the Los Angeles Times and Kyodo.
